Karen S. Lynch: Thank you for having me. I'm the CEO of the Torridge Limes Basic Chemical Factory, which is located in the Torridge District Council in England. In my role, I am in charge of the operations and strategic direction of the company.

Interviewer: Could you provide us with a general view of the business systems and processes at the factory?

Karen S. Lynch:  Well, our factory mainly makes pesticides using chemicals. Our main inputs include limestone, from a nearby mine, water, our dedicated workforce, machines, and electric power. We employ around 2700 people, which makes up about 31% of the total industrial workforce in this region.

Interviewer: That's interesting. Can you explain the chemical processes involved in producing pesticides from limestone?

Karen S. Lynch: Certainly.Through a series of chemical processes, we break down the limestone to obtain the necessary components for pesticide production. These processes are quite complex and involve various chemical reactions and transformations, which are carried out using specialized machines and equipment.

Interviewer: What are the primary outputs of your factory, and how do you manage waste generated during the production process?

Karen S. Lynch: The main outputs of our factory include pesticides,  which are then distributed to different  customers. However, with the chemical manufacturing process, there is waste generated, and, of course, profits for our business partners.

Interviewer: Now, let's talk about sustainability. How environmentally sustainable are your factory's operations currently?

Karen S. Lynch: I´ll be honest; managing waste is a significant concern for us. We have established waste management procedures to ensure responsible disposal and recycling wherever possible.

Interviewer: Are there any specific steps or plans in place to make your factory more environmentally friendly?

Karen S. Lynch: Of course , we're exploring various initiatives to reduce waste, minimize emissions, and explore cleaner production processes. We're committed to improving our environmental impact.
